Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit is a comprehensive exam and consultation. This 90 minute appointment involves digital x-rays, digital photos of you and your teeth, oral cancer check and a thorough exam of your teeth, gums and soft tissue.   Dr. Kesteven  spends time discussing any dental concerns you are having and together you come up with a treatment plan that works best for you, your budget and your time.  Your hygiene appointment can be scheduled also.

How can I overcome my fear?

Dental fear is real and debilitating for some. We realize that just making a call to our office is a hard step. You will never be judged!!Communication is key. Discuss your fears with us so we are aware of what exactly causes your dental anxiety. We will work with you to make you feel more comfortable and less anxious.
There are a many different ways we can help reduce fear, anxiety and pain.  In our office we are proud to offer conscious sedation and we do it well !! Conscious oral sedation is a fantastic alternative that allows us to work on your smile while you relax in a dream like state.

How does conscious sedation work?

You are given a small pill to take an hour prior to your dental appointment. Your companion will accompany you to the office. By the time you arrive you will be very drowsy. When you arrive in our office, you will be escorted into the comfort room, covered with a thick, warm blanket and placed on a monitor to watch your vital signs. After you are comfortable Dr. Kesteven and the experienced clinical team at Kesteven Dental Care Studio will take care of your dental needs.

When your treatment is completed your companion will return you home to finish your comfortable, relaxing day. No, you may not drive home or take a taxi.

Will treatment hurt?

Even though you may choose to be sedated, we still do use local anesthetic so treatment should not cause any discomfort.  We encourage our patients whether sedated or not, to inform us at any point if they are experiencing discomfort so we can immediately make them more comfortable.

Do you take dental insurance?

Payment is due on the day of your appointment. Financial arrangments  are made prior to your appointment if you are receiving sedation.  We will assist with reimbursement of your insurance by submitting your claim electronically. If your plan allows for electronic submissions,  you should typically receive payment within 3-4 business days.  Some policies require manual submission and these may take longer for your reimbursement.

Do you offer a discount?

We are pleased to offer a 3% reduction in fees if treatment is paid by cheque, cash your debit 48 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment.

Do we offer services for children?

We are an adult oriented practice but do treat children over the age of 12. Children under 12 years of age are referred to our fantastic local pediatric dentist for their oral needs.

Are we open Saturdays and evenings?

Our office is open Tuesday to Friday.  We do offer Thursday evening appointments until 6pm to accommodate those patients who require a later time.
